Hi, my name is Valerie Kuipers. I added this class late so I wasn't able to meet you all on the first day, but here's a little about myself! I'm a sophomore from Jupiter, FL studying social science education. I spent my first year at Michigan State but decided to transfer to FSU and have been loving it ever since! As far as my experience with technology, I'd say I'm as accustomed as you expect the average 19 y/o to be. In the past, I've worked with practically all Microsoft programs and social medias.

In this class, I hope to learn how to use more advanced programs efficiently and effectively. I feel like there's a lot more to the technology world than Instagram and Microsoft Word so I hope I can master the programs that will allow for me to excel as a teacher later on. Furthermore, as we age, technology is becoming more and more popular in everyday life, especially in schools, so it is very important for us to master this before we get left behind.

As a student, I've used Microsoft Word throughout all phases of schooling. In elementary, I mostly used it to draw pictures and print out my own coloring sheets. In middle school, I began using it more professionally, as in, to write papers. That continued onto high school, except I learned how to change certain aspects like format, page breaks, line spacing, etc. Now, in college, I use Microsoft Word for practically everything -- I take notes in class on it, I build my resumé on it, I remain typing my papers on it. My teachers have used Microsoft Word similar to how I have, from what I've observed. Teachers are influenced to use technology in the classroom by certain initiatives directed nationally and state-wide which REQUIRE them to use and be efficient in working with technology, but also personal interest in programs like Engrade, to help grading, which leads to an easier experience in school. Students are influenced basically by their own interest in learning. Their knowledge of certain programs, like Geogebra, reinforces the idea that learning can be accessed through games and not through traditionally boring lectures.  ISTE has been put in place and maintained by the federal government in order to ensure that everyone within the educational sphere meets what is required to use technology efficiently within the classroom.
